Step Junkie Productions, Inc.
Step Training and Products for Instructors
I am currently offering four Step workshops, explained below. I have designed the workshops to provide a weekend of Step instruction to maximize the opportunity for continuing education credits. Please contact me at stepjunkieproductions@gmail.com if you would like more information or to schedule a workshop. Workshops will generally be scheduled 8 to 12 weeks in advance, and minimum participation may be required if the location requires me to travel.
Do you have trouble coming up with new, interesting, and fun choreography for your Step classes? Or maybe you have developed some beautiful choreography, but can’t figure out how to present it to your participants in a way that keeps them safe, active, engaged, and entertained? At this workshop, Dana will discuss every aspect of teaching Step: safety, music, cueing, choreography development, breakdown techniques that work for all levels, solutions to common problems, and much more! You’ll leave with an arsenal of techniques that you can use to infuse your classes with creative choreography and professional-level breakdowns that deliver a fun, effective workout and keep your participants coming back for more!
Objectives of Workshop
This workshop will provide new and experienced Step instructors with practical teaching skills, including tools for how to keep their participants safe during the workout, what to do when they make a mistake while teaching, ways to make choreography new and different, how to develop 32-count choreography, how to develop a balanced breakdown for their choreography, how to work with the musical phrase, and how to stay organized. At the end of this course, participants will be able to:

Description of Workshop
One of the most common problems faced by Step Aerobics instructors is the amount of time that it takes to develop interesting choreography and its corresponding breakdown. This workshop will introduce the Build-Up Method, which will save you countless hours of class development time, and it will provide simple ways to infuse your choreography with creative, fun moves. Instead of breaking down your Step routine, gradually build it up using basic building blocks and simple choreography development techniques that result in fun, interesting choreography for all levels of Step classes.
Objectives of Workshop
This workshop will provide new and experienced Step instructors a simple yet effective time-saving technique—known as the Build-Up Method—for assembling and breaking down Step choreography for group fitness classes. The Build-Up Method will enable the instructor to customize choreography for beginner, intermediate, or advanced-level classes. At the end of this course, participants will be able to:
-- Develop creative choreography for a one-hour step class more quickly than ever before
-- Develop a balanced breakdown for the step choreography while the choreography is being created
-- Understand and apply the mechanics of a balanced breakdown
